7 "Dere" and Their Meanings
Have you ever heard any of these Dere and want to better know and/or understand what they mean? well, this is the perfect article for you. here are the dere and their meaning. let's hesitate no longer and dive right in with our first "dere". All arranged in alphabetical order for your enjoyment.
Before we learn what these 7 deres translate to and mean, we need to understand what a dere is. " Dere" is a Japanese term derived from the word " Dere Dere" which is an onomatopoeia, it roughly translates to ( Lovey Dovey) that can be much better understood as ( Love Struck )
Dandere
Dandere's are characters that display introverted and antisocial behaviour, they hide from society and try to avoid social interactions as much as possible and at all costs. They are shy and finicky even after getting to know someone and knowing them for a long amount of time. the term Dandere is deprived of the Japanese word “Danmari” which roughly translates to ( Silence ).
An Example of a fairly famous Dandere:
Saiki Kusuo
Saiki K. is famous for his wanting to be home alone and enjoy coffee pudding by himself. It is so prominent in his show, series and movies that it has become a running gag that many enjoy. he isn't necessarily quite as he is anti-social and he simply wants a quiet life away from all of the noise his friends.
Deredere
Deredere translates to ( Love Struck ). Deredere characters are energetic clumps of the flesh who are generally very kind and understanding people. they are full of positivity and are very generous. basically, your average fl in near every slice of life anime. It does not have to be a female.
An Example of a fairly famous DereDere:
Tatara Fujita
Tatara is your average main character, he is an enthusiastic and positive character who turns his obsession for ballroom dancing into a reality. because of this, he always seems happy and energetic even if things looked horrid and difficult. he is always very bubbly and determined to achieve his goal. the average Deredere.
Dorodere/ Doredere
Doredere or Dorodere like Yandere are known for their ability to put on a mask, a fake representation of who they really are as they pretend to be the most caring and kind people in the world. Only for that to be the least of the truth. Both dere's hide their deepest desires tucked behind their hearts under their mask and only let it surface when they can't hide it for some reason. They, unlike many other deres, are known to hold grudges and bare faults even towards their love interest.
An Example of a fairly famous Dorodere/Doredere:
Nana Hiiragi
Nana is your average Dorodere, her entire series focuses on her attempt to kill the people on an island while pretending to be an innocent victim and bystander of all the repeated murderers in front of the people who might suspect her as the assailant.
Kuudere
Kuundere is similar to Tsundere in many ways. these terms are both referring to the same type of person. A human who possesses a cold and distant personality, only showing affection to those they find worthy of it or attractive. while Tsundere is cold due most times due to their arrogance, Kuundere's are cold due to their naivety and often do Deprived of the words " Kuru " which is the Katakanization of the English word " cool " and the word "Dere" which more or less translates to ( Love Struck ). Kuundere's unaffectionate behaviours appear more of an act of being cool than arrogant which is one of the reasons why they're more lovable.
An Example of a fairly famous Kuundere:
Kaede Tachibana
Kaede is a quiet girl for the sake of it, that's just her personality. what she was born with. She deeply cares for the people that actively hate her and till the end wishes only the best for them.
Megedere
A Megadere is someone obsessed with their love interest to the point where it can become a problem, but not to the extent that Yandere are willing to go for the person of the dreams. The word " Megadere " has no official or rough translation, we believe that it most likely comes from the words " Megane" which means glasses and of course, the word "Dere" which by now I'm sure you should know the meaning. Megadere is like a younger sibling to Yandere.
An Example of a fairly famous Megadere:
Tohru
Tohru is absolutely in love with Kobayashi, she is willing to do near anything for Kobayashi's love and affection. she often voices her affection to Kobayashi but never forces Kobayashi to do anything to Thru that Kobayashi doesn't want.
Tsundere
Tsundere is a term used to describe a person who at first presents themselves as cold and heartless. Temperamental and even hostile at times due to their high and mighty personality and "I'm too good for everyone" mentality fueled by their pride. Yet, as the story progresses or you get to better know the person, you soon find out that that character deep inside is in reality a very shy and kind person. Tsundere is a Japanese term used to describe emotional development in a character with no official translation to my knowledge as of this posting.
An Example of a fairly famous Tsundere:
Rin Tohsaka
Rin Tosaka is your average rich privileged girl. she is genuinely intelligent but cold and distant. Later as the series progresses, we learn that her personality is not what she puts out. She is much kinder and more caring than we are first led to believe.
Yandere
Yandere is a term used to describe someone who appears innocent and caring at first but turns into an obsessive and possessive towards the person they have high affections for, this affection can often turn violent and they display a psychotic kind of behaviour for their love. Yandere is deprived of the Japanese words" Yanderu " which roughly translates into ( To be sick ) and " Deredere " which roughly translates to ( Lovestruck ).
An Example of a fairly famous Yandere:
Satou Matsuzaka
In front of society, Satou presents herself as an intelligent and respectful girl full to the brim with morals society has hammered into her. she appears perfect, without flaws. that is only a face she puts on. behind doors, Satou is a completely different person. she murders steals and is obsessed with her love interest to the point of attempting to lock them up and manipulate others who love them as well. your typical Yandere.
